I did it by hacking up a walkie talkie set. Horrible sound quality, but it served it's purpose.

yeah. things meant for voice only dont need to (and therefore usually dont) work over the full audio frequency band (20-20000 Hz). Is it a high-quality wireless mic, or just a glorified walkie-talkie?
