Broken Xbox help.

Post by Mikeyman64 »

Hello there, I am trying to fix my friends Xbox and I don't know much about them. I have a good bit of experience with Nintendo products and PCs but Xbox is a totally strange country to me. What happens is; I turn it on with no game (currently I have none), it boots up, it will stop at the Signature "Xbox" logo, and when I open and close the dvd drive, it gives me an error message in mutiple langs with no error#. I've tried calling 1800-4my-xbox, but it's out of warrenty so I want to try and fix it for him so he doesn't have to pay $80. Does anyone know what might be wrong? I tried connecting the hdd to my PC, but my PC wouldn't boot with it connected. BTW, he broke it by hammer punching it with his very large fists (he weighs like 180, all muscle).

You could get a CheapMod mod chip. Get a Xecuter, those are the handsdown best modchip.

Try a softmod. You need an AR, and a nonplatnium version of MechAssault.

right, the hard drive is "locked" to an xbox serial number. a locked drive wont work in another xbox without first being unlocked (in the orignal box) than relocked in the new one. you need to get a hacker dashboard running to lock/unlock. ive used evox with much success, but its up to you. i know evox can lock/unlock though.

and you can buy (almost) any normal pc hard drive and lock it into an xbox too. if youre going to go the modchip route, youre better of doing this, so you have more room for movies/roms/games on your drive.

I heard that it is possible to unlock a xbox hdd by starting the xbox up with the hdd connected and the hot switching the ide cable with your PC and running a "unlocking" software (or somthing close to that procedure). Is this accurate? If not, where can I buy the best cheap modchip for the best price?

it depends if the first one needs a programmer to be programmed or not. usually chips dont come with illgal hacker bios'es preinstalled. you gotta download them yourself and put it on the chip somehow. so if you buy the first one, you might find out you need to shell out another 20 bucks for a programmer. you should research this.
