My secondary DVD-Rom drive won't turn on when the ide is plugged in, why is this?

And it turns on when the IDE cable isn't plugged in?
I'd imagine right now you wish you were a cuttlefish...

are you pluging it in forwards? when i plugged someing in backwards once, all my hard drives didnt spin up. lol

Oh yeah, the "red stripe" as my dad calls it.

Haha, my dad thinks he's clever by saying 'red stripe' also.

But ya, make sure the red insulated wire is on the side that the ledgend power cable's red wire is.

Also, are the jumpers on screwy? I doubt it, but it could be a problem if say, you put them on so they are horazontil (definatley not spelt right) instead of vertical.

is your power supply powerful enough? that fixed my hard drive not turning on problem i had when i made my computer

In other words, how much Watts is your power supply rated at?

Its the same computer switched to a new case, So 274 Watts on a 450 Watt Supply.

That should have nothing to do with it. Its when the IDE Cable gets plugged in (not hte power) that it doesn't work.
