Shuttle PC project (Getting ready to buy)

Post by Joes2Silly »

Im am going to build a PC sometime (not quite sure) , but I decided to go with something different ... a shutle PC! I basically have my case, motherboard, and CPU all set out (here and here) but I need some help deciding what other components to put in it. My totall budget is around $800 but not that much over $800, any suggestions :?:

FYI: this is going to be a gaming PC

I'd say got with at least a 200X ATI graphics card. I'm sure there are others that will say go NVidia. Only other this is besure you have 1GB ram, you don't need more most benchmarks have noted that 1GB is the best amount to have.

Ya if it's gameing make sure you spend ATLEAST $150-200 on a GFX card, anything less and you just won't be happy in 4 years when your PC can't run squat :P Also 1 gig of ram and a DVD-Rom drive is a definate for a Gaming PC. Most PC games are coming out on DVD only now and they really arn't that expencive.

For the love of god, don't buy a video card from a retail store. http://www.newegg.com has the same video cards for just about half the price (edit: well, the X1300 at least). For ~180 you should be able to afford a GeForce 7600GT, which is supposed to be pretty good.

nevermind, I just need some help picking out a Micro ATX motherboard. It needs to have a PCI-E slot and I would preferably like to have 4 DDR memory slots

They look about the same to me... Same speed, same size, both cooled.

Check Xoxide.com for liquid cooling stuff. Then check around to see what you can find for less elsewhere. Overall, a liquid cooling system is going to be fairly large, but if you put it together yourself, you can pick and choose the smallest parts that will be sufficient. If you're just cooling the processor, a small radiator should work fine. If you're looking for a premade system, the Cooler Master Aquagate Mini is a good choice. It also comes in an 80mm fan version if your case won't accommodate a 120mm.

You might want to take a look at the GIGABYTE passively cooled X1600PRO 256MB ATI card. It is only 109 bucks, though you may have trouble keeping it cooled in such a tight case. Tomorrow I will have tested it out in a mini-tower. I'll tell you how well it runs then.
