the pins on the cart slot plug into the EXT slot, not the mobo. the EXT slot connects them to the mobo. when the EXT slot is gone, the cart slot has nothing to plug inot so you need to solder the pins to the corresponding pins on the outer rows (where the EXT slot is connected)

well i guess it depends how you define "run". i mean, it wont break. it will just act like it does when there is not game in it.
anyways, hes right. the cart slot relies on the exp. slot to connect to the motherboard. if you remove the ext. slot, you have to solder the cart slot to the board yourself. this will become very clear if you actually go remove the ext. slot.
