well, I'm sure that in hell you'd be tortured in whatever way would hurt you the most.
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

I'm not religious at all, so don't take my opinions into much consideration if you ARE religious.

The Bible states about 'Heaven' and 'Hell.'

Does that make it true?

I beilive (personally) that we die and that's the end of our lifetime. Our life is meant to keep our race alive, and to accomplish things and help discover, to make the best of our own lives.

When we die [ I ] believe we do something called nothing.

I don't believe we have a 'soul' that flies around as a ghost, or that our souls go to 'Heaven' or 'Hell,' because, who's to judge if we've been 'good' or 'bad.'

I think that churches (and maybe temples, I dunno, even though I'm Jewish  ) force this thing onto us to make a better society. I THINK they make us think that we need to be good if we want to have a good afterlife.

So after all of this, I beilieve that our souls live on, watch over our friends and families, BUT STAY ON EARTH.

-Opinion.

For example, for an evil goth who fears all that is good, would Hell be a happy, rainbow-filled, happy bunny land? Probably not the best example, I know, but you get my point.

And Kurt's right about nothing  (at least scientifically)
I saw in an article somewhere where a few Priests think that hell is just eternal nothingness, in a sense that you know your there but you cant, smell, taste, feel, hear or see anything and that would be the eternal punishment of existing, without ever existing in a way.

I really didn't mean for this to go off into some wild beat down of others religons. All I was doing was stating my thoughts. If it gets too intence with the whole religon thing, please feel free to lock it.

I kind of have to agree with Gamelver, I beleave there is something more to this world then what we see.....

and gamemasterAS, don't worry about it, you've probobly only lived a 10th of your life so far and by the time your 70 you might be able to cryo-freese your brain and in 2150 they might be able to bring you back as a cyborg :D

I was always taught that hell was like this:

A teacher tells you he's going to give you a test tomorrow, and then gives you the answers. He even lets you bring the answers home to study them. You know you have the answers, but still you don't bother to look at them when you get home. The next day, you take the test and fail. Hell is sort of like this: you feel eternally guilty that you didn't do the right thing when you had the chance.

That's how it was most often explained for me...

He's exactly correct (I beleive). I think that we are here just to prove that we will do the right thing: beleive in god. If we don't (or if we beleive in fake god(s)) then we go to hell probably, if we do we go into heaven. And somewhere inbetween there is something (purgatory) and there we are inspected by god, or some other saintly spirit.
But if someone doesn't beleive me, that's ok
P.S I bet (not gambling) by the end of today or tomorrow, this thread will be lockified...

existance is a topic that has sparked religions, science, and even wars.

What man knows for sure is science
What he doesn't is faith

what is so grey is that none have seen/or proof of "the other side"

What is so incredible is that most religions with supreme deities/deity states that they always existed.
try comtenmplating that you were never born, or will never die, also contemplate simply ceasing to exist

YOU CANNOT!

for the simple reason that man cannot think without existing or without thinking where "it all began"

i am personallya christian but all this is still a heavy load on he human psyche...faith i all humans have to go on and i will continue to keep my faith until my final days on this plane of existance...

I'm strictly Athiest, but I know one fact which probably cannot be refuted: none of us will be able to convince each other that he or she is right. I am not going to attempt to explain my own views, because doing so would not actually change anyone elses, and I think that forcing your views on another person is innapropriate.

However, here is a very interesting concept I once heard which sorta relates to what geekbait111 said: God has asked us a very simple question, "Do you seek salvation and eternal life?" What if all of human history has been the instant after he asks us the question, and the instant before we answer, stretched out by the Devil to confuse us and make us falter?

Alright, I think we should leave religion out of this from now on, it's getting hairy since geekbait's post.

Well, did one ever think of the fact that these views could coexist? Darkness can't exist without a source of light, just as science and creationism can't exist without each other. This "line" you speak of could be man's mental manifestation of what is right and wrong, black and white; truly, though, this is a VERY grey area.
I happen to agree with marshall on thisw one. I really don't want a logically understandable God. I just acknowledge His presence and realize that we owe this beautiful world and all life to Him.

Also, Limpport, do you happen to be a martial artist? I noticed the picture in your sig has someone (you :? ?) doing a front snap kick, with the toes in proper position. Very rare for a non-martial artist. Your philosophical mindset also represents that of a martial artist. I only ask because I do martial arts (check out my sig  )

I'm not saying they couldn't, perioid. I'm just saying they couldn't on THIS forum.
Plus "darkness" doesn't exist, it's just the absence of light. :P

Well sadly, Crono, this world isn't exactly as beautiful as it used to be, before sin. But we surely do owe our existence to God.

I don't know about you guys, but just that fact that I exist, is enough proof for me to believe that God exists.

If I could take a guess at why the religion rule was made would be to keep people from getting into senseless arguments and bickering.

As long as people keep this a discussion simply for its own sake and not putting down others or forcing their views on others, it should be fine.

As far as Intelligent Design goes, the idea is a core belief of Christianity but it's the fundamentalists that take it too far. IMHO Christian fundamentalists are the same as Islamic fundamentalists - they interpret their scriptures literally and force their beliefs on others. That's not how either should be shared.

I don't think ID should even be taught in school - keep teaching evolution and give people kids can look up to and maybe learn WHY everything is as it is. ID is a case of hotheaded nonsense gone too far - and I say this as a christian myself.

But anyway, respect others and don't get flamey. :P

yes, ID should not be taught. Evolution is known by every reasonable scientist or even a slightly knowledgable person, but ID isn't even a theory. I mean, I don't believe in evolution, I simply know that it's how we were made. Once again, whether or not it was God who did it is your own call. Also, it's not religion's place to teach science, it's for morals and how to live. ID is trying to explain science through Religion, and it can't be done. Likewise, it's not science's place to teach morals and how to live. Science is to explain the world, and through it better our lives. Religion is to explain us, and through it better our lives.

So both are very similar, but also very different. They should not be mistaken for one another.
