arcade cabinet?

i came upon a Crystal Castles Arcade machine today. it is in very good - near ment condition, however the game does not work. the owner says he would need at Least $100 for it.

Would this be worth it even if i cannot get the game working?

Yeah, if you have a spear computer or can build one you can make it into a MAME cabinet. Spongbuell is building one right now so you'd have plenty of help for setting it up.

I would buy it if i had the money. If it's really nice you could try getting i working and resell it for profit. You could always buy a new board. Does it have a moniter?

You have two choices. Choice A is to take it rip out the insides and put in a new system which would be totaly bang'n. That way you could use the screen (Unless its bad condition or won't work for the system your going to use in which case you should probably go with choice B) and the box and just paint the outside or get a big decal like most people get. Or Choice B which would be to build one from scratch which will have less faults since its newer tech. and you can at least return it if its defective when you get it. So is it the red pill or blue pill. Woops wrong movie. Choice A or B.

Here's what I did to my Crystal Castles Cab.

It was a tight fit and I ended up deciding to make a left hand and right hand joystick set up so when you use the track ball your hand won't hit any of the joysticks.

I found it at a local Flee market for $20 dollars. It came with no arcade CPU board and with a busted monitor.

Now it has an 19" PC monitor (which is the original arcade size)
with an Intel pentium 2 chip and a 20g hard drive
I'm building it very cheep.

Still even if you paied $100 for it, that's still good. If you were to make your own it would cost more and would take allot of time. Also the Track ball is worth some good money.

how did you wire the trackball to the mouse? I'd like to have some kind of detatchable trackball but I do not know how to wire it. (my trackball came with my cab, and it was free

)

Track balls and roller ball mice work the same way, by reading the light from the light sensors that passes through the slits of the pin wheels. So what I did was de solder the light sensors and attatched them to some extention wire then simply relocate them so the light will pass through the TrackBall Pinwheels in stead of the mouse Pinwheels.

I guess I should write a tutorial because I have never seen one on how to do this on any MAME site.

in the forum section has how to build a spinner and track ball from a old mouse hack there is a website but its easier checking the forums

I know of a few mame sites showing how to do the mouse hack

man i should try a mame project a guy at the flea market was selling cabs the other day but they worked so they cost a lot but he said he had broken ones too

Thats just 2 from 1 quick google search and there is loads more plus there are better ways to hack the mouse for a trackball.

Also other hacks are Spinner and Steering wheel

But after my experience with doing a few arcade cabs i reccomend you buy the products made for this like the Keywiz Max its a great keyboard encoder and its cheap

And my good friend oscar

he's got great spinners he is the arcade king and the bastard makes shuch good cabinets

he's to good

But yeah theres a lot better How-to's in the arcade forums its all u need
