Simple fun psone screen project Digital Photo Frame.

Hi guys,

I just finished this simple/fun psone screen project(Only two wires needed to be soldered). I found the idea already on the web, I wish I could find the site again, so I could properly credit the guy that posted it - but I can't. I slightly modified his use of the psone screen (thanks to what I've learned on these boards).

Thanks Marshallh!. It was super easy & I even improved on the guys original design. Now I only wish I could find some more psone screens from ebgames, but they seem like they are in short supply.

hey there im doing this same thing and am getting lines and bars across the screen that roll, any ideas on what it could be? ive resodered almost everything thinking maybe a bad connection?

Check the ribbon cable going from the screen to the pcb, the brown/copper thin one. If that's in any way ripped, you're screwed.

It actually sounds like a sync/grounding problem. Check to see if the video wire is loose, and if it's very thin wire, find thicker wire. Also check the ground wire.

okay, so i replaced the video wire with thicker wire and that didnt do anything.

Then, some loose wire touched a part of my board and a big spark happened, and now its better, but not right.

The bars are smaller and more of the picture shows through, but there are still two 1 inch bars that roll upwards.

guess ill check my grounds

Huh? No, of course not. Video is video, ground is ground.

ive noticed that playing with the screen brightness makes a big difference. On all the way dark-----theres no lines and no rolling bars (but the picture looks like a negative image)

and on full bright mode. Theres two 1/2 inch black (negative like) bars that roll upwards, but in between the bars the picture is perfect.

Its almost like, if i could turn the brightness up even further, the picture would improve.

Im thinking of buying another screen, but it seems like this one is working (almost).

The white-LED mod will make the screen darker than with its original bulb. You can trick the screen to get brighter by bypassing a small component on the back of the board with a thin bit of wire as shown in Figure 4-31.

It's just above the center of the board, where you'll see 10 little surface-mounted components in a row. You want to bypass the third one from the left, labeled CV30. Since it makes the screen a lot brighter, perhaps too bright for some people's taste, I'd suggest bypassing the part instead of removing it, as you may wish to change it back. (It's your call.)

you could also have an on/off switch for the LEDs to save a minute amount of energy (why you would I don't know)
