NES problem

i recently aquired an nes and have it all hooked up. it turns on fine, can play the game fine, but after like 3 minutes it turns itself off. i'm not using the official power supply, im using a different one that fit the hole its output is 12v if that matters. could anyone help me?

The NES is overheating (doubt it), the power supply is overheating (more likely) or the power supply is just total crap.

Is there any way I can stop the power supply from overheating?

Yup buy a new power supply

! Preferrably an OFFICIAL Nintendo power supply.

the NES has a 7805 in it so i think it'll be fine

I found one with 9v, and it seems to be working fine now. Thanks.
