the BenHeck.com wiki project

Post by timmeh87 »

i had an idea last night... why dont we start a wiki? everyone around here is trying to make their own little independant guides to portabilizing, but wouldnt it be so much better if we pooled all of our knowledge into a dynamic, comprehensive guide?

maybe wikipedia will even let us start a wikibook. that saves the trouble of setting up our own wiki software

http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Main_Page

this could be combined with the console picture database. it would be awesome

eh? good idea?

Really it's kind of shifted to PortablesofDoom.org, as you can add and add to articles there.

I really don't care if we have a wiki. Go for it, but don't expect me to contribute much. There's already benheck, POD and PortableStreet. (yes, portable street may seem like it is just a benheck clone but it is more to concentrate info for n00bs, and focueses only on N64).

well you didnt have to bother making one if no one wants to contribute.

the difference is that on pod, you cant edit any page you feel like.

anyways. it seems no one wants to, nevermind about it...

True, true...
Here is a Link to a possible banner I just whipped up. I think this wiki thing is a good idea, an easy way to access and post ideas and information, without having to yell at people to search.

that's a nice logo but the wiki thing is already covered by POD. you can submit stuff and everything, no need to improve what's already perfect

What are you talking about "portable street doesn't have one post that isn't spam"? :? Try looking in sections OTHER then Forum 666.

well POD definitely isnt a wiki. more like a random collection of peoples personal projects. which isnt bad, im just saying theyre not the same thing. i was envisioning something like other wikibooks i have seen, with clear directions explaning everything possible all in one place with high-res pictures, and no incorrect repeated or misleading information, and like... only one article per topic. not many, many like are currntly on POD

but this is a lot of work, so if everyone isnt on board, then there is no point trying.

so yeah. i dunno. i guess since we have a wiki up already we might as well try.

i still think its a good idea.

i dont have much time till the weekend, but then maybe ill write up some rough stuff.
