2600 Repair

I'd just like to know if anyone knows of any site that has anything on fixing a 2600, The problem with mine is that when I turn it on the game doesent appear on the screen but I can still see that some feed is going through.

have you tried opening it up and cleaning it with some canned air?

This might not be something you want to hear, but you should mod it to output composit video. If you are still using Coaxial/RF the video just sucks. Mod it and you'll have a stronger signal.

Another thing is to see if the connectors on the cartridge slot and games need to be cleaned. These can mess with the video quality. Be sure to delude the rubbing alcohol, I've heard a 50-50 is good and use a cotton swab. One other way to clean the games is a pensil eraser.

Where did you get these ideas???

First off, before anyone does a composite video mod, it's a good idea to have a working console. If there's an unknown problem that's not part of the RF modulator, a video mod will not fix the problem. If the person then doesn't know how to fix the problem (and decides it's not worth getting someone else to fix it), then doing the video mod was a complete waste of time (and possibly some money for parts).

Second, when cleaning electrical contacts with alcohol, it's best to use the purest alcohol available. Any water just accelerates corrosion, and minerals from adding your own tap water (even if filtered) will just multiply that. At least in store-bought rubbing alcohol, any added water is pure water without other contaminants. If you can get it, use 100% (anhydrous) medicinal alcohol. Otherwise, even if it's 98%, 90%, 70% or whatever, just use it straight from the bottle. It's too cheap to bother with trying to save money by diluting it - I can get 2 bottles for 99 cents at the local 99 cent store.
