Accessing CMOS

Today we had a free period in computer class. I realised our computers aren't living up to their potential.

I was going to overclock them, but when I enter the BIOS, no such option exists. The closest I could find is Jacking up the SDRAM speed (which I did).

So how do I access the CMOS? I can't get into the proper menu through the BIOS?

(I know this sounds newbish, but it's true!)

All the CMOS is is the chip that stores the settings in the BIOS utility. Perhaps the computers are old and need to change a jumper on the mobo to overclock it. How old are the comps?

What BIOS do they run...some manufactures don't allow you to overclock (Such as Dell) the CPU or Bus Speed. You can try to flash the chip with new BIOS. Btw, how can you do that? I want ASUS BIOS instead of my DELL BIOS

No offense, but why would you want to overclock a school computer?

Anyway, re-flashing the BIOS is pretty much out because it's most likely a name-brand computer (Dell, Gateway etc) and they used customized BIOSes. Even if you were to open the sucker up or look at the POST screen, the motherboard manufacturer's BIOS won't work at all. In fact, it wouuld most likely brick the PC.

Yeah. So it can't be overclocked?

It's a fairly recent computer. It's a 2.8 P4 with 512 of ram.

And yeah, it's probably a name-brand computer (or brand-name

) , seeing as it's got a colour scheme between the monitor/mouse/keyboard/computer. And a sticker that has the P4 logo and such. And A windows XP sticker.

Not to mention there's probably a school discount from the provider for buying 50 or more or something along those lines.

I don't think OVerclokcing it too much would be safe, anyways. The fan has 2 speeds - Low, and off. And the CPU was at 50-60Â°C already.

I also jacked up the graphics speed, for no reason whatsoever.

Just in case a Night Elf pops into the room with free subscriptions and copies of WoW...
