Me too. Why would I need a 30" computer screen? I had a 21" CRT on my Macs for the longest time, and it was almost too big! (Took too long to navigate the screen and find stuff) I'm used to 1024x768, so all it would get me is bigger pixels. (I wouldn't mind getting a cheap 15" LCD to use as a second monitor for stuff like Photoshop palletes (there's a ton of them!

) and Notepad.

I think dual monitors is much more practical for this sort of thing.

if you ever have enough money to buy that, just buy yourself a nice $2,000 computer instead (unless you dont need one, in that case save the money)

Ya, for $2000 you could get your self an amzing projector that would be bright enugh to play on even in the day... there is a major problem, you would prolly be spending around $300-$500 a year on bulbs. Projector bulbs only last a few months and are generaly 1/4 of the total price of the projector itself.

My bro. has had a projector for 2 years, and still with using it regularly hasn't burnt a bulb.

what i was looking for before i got my front projection TV was a CRT projector because CRTs last forever. the one i have now is from the '70s and it still works like a charm

Well, a random bulb I looked at said it got 2,000 hours out of it. Let's see what that means, shall we? Let's say you use this 3 hours a day, every day. By the way, this is on the high end, most people won't even use it that much. that average so be about 600 days, or around 2 years. Even still, that's keeping in mind that most people will use it much less. I'd say that I average an hour a day, maybe, and that would be 2,000 days (or 1,800 days, or about 5 years)

I'd say that's a bit more than a few months

While I can't denie the fact a 30" LCD on my desk would almost bring me to tears of happiness there is no way I see it happening. Though everytime I'm at CompUSA and I see that G5 connected to that 31" Cinema display I have a hard time turing away. But in reality, I'd settle for a new 17" what-ever, LCD or CTR.

I've also heard they might be coming out with a new CTR screen. One that's about the thickness of a desktop LCD but offers higher resolutions. I'll look for a link.

Well, on the website that I got my plans from most people use their projector for 6 to 8 hours a day (keep in mind this is their hobby) so they would use up one every 9 months. Also the lights may last 2000 hours but as the bulb is used it decays so after 1000 hours it's around 50% as bright.

I once went to the tower where they study the ocean and weather and stuff for the news, they had a thing where their computer was hooked up to four monitors next to each other, all doing different things, and he could just slide the cursor and it would jump across the gaps.

Yeah, that's actually not too hard to do. Just get 2 graphics cards (unless your card supports multiple displays) and put a monitor on each one. Load the drivers, and bring up that box that lets you change the resolution. In Windows 2000 or XP, it's pretty easy to do. Then your 2 monitors act like one big one (or however many you have) I have this at home, and I absolutely love it! Oh yeah, it's nice to have your monitors be close to the same size, and for sure the same resolution. (it works if it isn't, but it can grow to be a little annoying)
