I've got a couple of laptop screens that have been sitting around for a long time collecting dust. I've been searching for info about how to make a console laptop or portable out of them, but it seems there is precious little information.
Anyone know if a laptop screen can be hooked to a console? I've got a 14.1" screen from a Compaq Presarion 900 and a 10" (?) one from an old Apple powerbook.
Here's what I'm picturing: gut the laptop, insert the innards from the console, hook up the video and hopefully power to the screen. Design a case to hold it all (something minimalist).
Use external controllers, not real worried about battery power (i.e, will plug it in). Would just like something to play in the airport, hotel rooms and during on-call nights at the hospital!
Laptop screen - is it possible?

For what it's worth, I did search, but found most of the threads about as helpful as this one.
After a while, though, I found a pattern. It goes like this:
Original Poster: "Can I use my busted laptop screen for a portable?"
Reply #1: "No. Well, maybe, but it's really hard and no one's done it yet."
Reply #2: "Jeez, we've been over this already. Do a search!"
It was pretty funny, actually. Oddly, I also participate in the Studentdoctor.net forums, and every 2 weeks or so, some dork posts a "Do I have what it takes?" post, with his GPA, scores, etc, and we all have to roll our eyes at the bad advice they're given. Oh well, I guess some questions just don't have good answers.
With all that out of the way, I also have a busted Palm Tungsten E with a working screen! Anyone know if that can be used? Wait, let me go search first. . . .
