My NESp isn't working!

Post by Ghost2520 »

i finally finished my first NESp, with the exception of the case. The battery is putting power into it, the screen lights up, I can see volume bar etc. I checked and the NES is receiving power as well as putting out the +5. The video booster also has power. The pins for the cartridge slot have been cleaned numerous times. Basically everything has power, I can feel the NES get warm after a few minutes but yet I see no pictue and hear no sound. What gives? Thanks.

Well if everything is getting power and the screen works, it has to be a wiring problem. Post pics of your wiring job and we may be able to help. Also, did you test the audio on the PSOne screen beforehand? You may have a bad audio amp on your hands, but I'm almost positive you made a wiring mistake.

Well I messed around with it some more and now I can get Battletoads (and only this game) to start up and it will go perfectly with sound until the start screen where it freaks and the screen starts shaking like mad! I'll post pics in a few minutes.

EDIT: Heres the pictures. I know it looks sloppy right now... thats because I haven't made a case yet and this is basically my first time ever using a soldering iron. If I redid everything right now I know I could do a better job... but I don't want to. :? And just to tell you, I don't know very much about electronics... (as you have noticed by now) but I think they resistors etc give off a little EMF because if the wires get within a millimeter of each other on the video amp the speakers get fuzzy. So could that be the problem? Is everything to close together? Oh and if the pics look different than bens book below, thats because I put the video amp and power regulator for screen on the same board. If you needme to draw lines showing what goes to what I will

if your getting a game to actually run, then your wiring is correct. I'd check your cartridge slot, and get it cleaned out.

I say screw the homebrew controller board and just use a regular one; since you don't have a case cut yet, just re-design it to hold a normal NES controller board.

Tried all that... tried plugging in a regular controller, tried putting the push n click cartridge thing on. I also tried uisng the cartridge connectors from another NES. Same problem every time.
