First one all the way, even the moniter is better (8ms response vs 16ms).
By the way, why are you ordering from a company that doesn't even know the difference between PCI-X and PCI-E? They're both completely different things.

The GF 7300 won't do much, so just replace it with something (relatively) cheap, like the 6600GT.

Some conflicting views here. Who ever posted first I believe that the seconds one has the better processor. Also whats the difference between PCI X and E

Also the second one has DDR2 memory not DDR.

As for what computer to get. Really if all you're going to do is run Windows then get the Athlon 64. Reason being is that So far AMD chips have out performed Intel and without an OS that supports SMP the second core in the Pentium D is going to go to waste.

Or you could get the first one and upgrade it to an AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800. The Intel Pentium D doesn't even have hyper-threading support.

I thought it did have HT support? That athlong would outperform a single pentium 4 but not the D apparently and I cant be bothered to update it. The AMD currently only supports DDR not DDR2 and some various other crap i cant remember lol. So bottom line without upgrades etc which one is better?

Which of those two and not a mac. Which cant run half the programs I need it for. No idea what video editing programs on it are like either.

Ok Intel to my knowledge dropped the HT technology after the Pentium 4. The Pentium D is a dual-core CPU, so HT is kind of stupid when you essentually have two CPUs. AMD has Hyper-Transport, which is simalar. I would advise against HT as I've heard that server admins turned it off as it was reducing performance and efficency.

If you want my suggest on which you should buy go back to my first post.

PCIx isn't exactly great, but it will last you until you want to upgrade.

And everything in the second is better than the first accept the Dual Core, but in that case, AMD is better. So it's a fair bet.

Everything in the second is better, are we talking about the same second one? The one with the Dual-Core P4?

Because the AMD (the first one) is better in every single way.

Oh and DDR2 isn't that great, it's actualy no better (not yet anyway) than DDR.
The reason is, even though it has much greater bandwidth, it has much higher latencies as a result. So it sort of balances out.
