I still haven't taken apart my N64, waiting to find out if I can get a cheap game bit screwdriver. the label on the bottom of my control deck says (c) copyright 1996, does this mean it is a 1996 n64? just wondering.

All N64's say (c) 1996 on the bottom. Inside on the motherboard is has the actual manufacture date and revision number. 1996-1997 models are less prone to frynig but can't be overclocked as much. Later models break more easily but can be overclocked (at the expense of battery life.)

I was thinking about that, i'll need to convince my dad to let me (and find a good pen ) Also, the sticker says NUS-001 (USA). I'm assuming that that's not nesesarily true either...

i used a pen and only used 1 pen remelting for each screw, opened a cube first time!

I found that there are two types of labels on N64s. One lists patent numbers and says something along the lines of "More Patents issued and pending" While the other one doesn't list any patent numbers at all. Have you guys noticed this? Do you think you could take a look at your N64 cases those of you who have the old ones and confirm for me which label the one without the patents is for?

the pen method works great, if its the right kind of pen. and you do have to remelt it for each screw\

my friends used the same method to unscrew the panel with the buttons in the elevator in their building... then rewired all the buttons

i've opened my N64 and gamecube with the same pen, no remelting required, BUT getting them screwed back together again, was almost impossible.

don't screw them back together with nintendo screws, get some normal ones so you won't need a pen
