"Parallel wiring" Batteries.

I have 2 ni-mh 9.6 batteries and want to wire them so it doesn't increase the voltage, but does increase the battery life. I have heard it referred to as parallel wiring. How do you do this? Please tell me.

connect both positive wires together, and both negative wires together. the positive wire goes to the voltage input on the console, and the negative goes to ground on the console.

Then what would the wiring be for adding the voltage?

taking the positive lead of one, connecting it to the negative lead of the other, and then using the other positive lead as the output, and the negative lead from the original battery as the negative output.

If someone else comes to this thread wondering the samething, but didn't understand gamelvers explanation (I did understand it myself) I made a diagram in KolourPaint. (yes, switched to linux!)
