Cart Slot Placement

Post by JackFrost22 »

Last night I was relocating a cart slot to allow a cart to slide down ala gameboy. I desoled the cart port stiped the cable with my teeth because I lsot my wire strippers  and rewired it, it worked. I wired the cart-slot in the original placement infront of the board and I may reconsider and wire it to the back, your thoughts and placement?

PS- The red coil, is it needed I cut it off last night and the video quality went down drastically so I had to cut the sides to get contacts to rewire it.

PSS- Has anyone tried to make a case similar to a laser engraved case with a scroll saw and some patience?

PSS- I'm back

The cart slot, I'd go with the down the back way you first mentioned. It gives it a much smaller profile as I see it, and gives you an area to put batteries (right below the cart).

I don't see why you couldn't make a case like the laser engraved one. You would have to use something more like plywood or such, I don't know how a scroll saw would handle something like acrilic.

I'm going with a landscape orientation 2600p, using original case plastic for about half of the case (maybe more) including the front woodgrain panel, and modified original switches (I shortened the aluminum handles, folded the legs under, and mounted them as close together as practical). My cart slot will be in what was the back (not the bottom) of the original console, flipped around so the carts' main labels will be up. This way, someone who sees me playing it from a few feet away will be able to read the end labels on the carts, right-side-up. Someone standing right in front of me could see the carts' main labels easily. And it won't be so &%$#!* thick! (I'm estimating 1 3/8 inches, maybe less). I also plan to have a "stealth" feature for many of the portable's controls - the woodgrain panel will be hinged to fold forward and down to reveal volume and brightness knobs, a bunch of switches (paddle/joy select, stereo/mono, master power, screen off, port swapping for the built-in controls, etc.) and switch labels on the back of the woodgrain panel itself.
Mum! Dad! Don't touch it! It's EEE-VIL!

I desoldered the red coil for space reasons, and it seems to be ok using the composite mod

I want to mod a cart slot into my Flashback 2.0 NES style (think like a VCR)
