Yeah, what he said.

I knew this thread would be popular. All of us are cheap, garbage pickers who would go to ridiculously great lengths to get free stuff.

it's a lot cheaper to use a lcd if you spend much time in front of it. also - you can take the guts from it and make some diy ;) maybe a projector ;)

I've gotten all kinds of computer-related stuff for free over the years. Most recently was two 17" Trinitron monitors from my father's work. They were replacing all the office puke's CRTs with LCDs, and were just throwing those awesome Trinitron monitors away.

A while back, also from his work, he got me a 750Mhz Dell laptop. It's died since then. Well, the LCD got stepped on (yes, stepped on..stupid step brother). I gave it to some one else to use as their primary PC. I just hooked up a CRT and a USB mouse to it for them.

I've also gotten video cards, modems, RAM, etc.

This much is true. I would like to make a projector out of one some day.

I don't much care for CRT's. I used to have one, and I would always get a headache after only an hour or two of looking at it. And it wasn't the refresh rate. Now I have an LCD and I can stare at it all day and not get a headache.
Viewing angle... Man on mine it's about the same as our other CRT's. The color on LCD's generally looks better too. Though I guess it depends on the brand and model, year and all that, as some CRT's are better than some LCD's.

EDIT: I don't mean to sound bratty like "MY LCD PWNS YOUR CRT". I just really despise my old CRT for giving me all those awful headaches. I'm happy that you got a cool freebie!

You, G-force... are dead to me now. :( I used to like you! Then you have to come along, and say something stupid like this. Now excuse me, while I think of an insulting nickname for you... while also sitting in front of my giant, non-headache-inducing CRT monitor. :P

Edit: Got it. I shall call you... G-string!

Ouch! :P Hey I like you too, just not your crude means of viewing the computers video output  (actually as long as you aren't getting headaches, power to your CRT. I hate mine still.)
