Hi, this is a semi-curious semi-needed question but I was wondering what the difference is between male and female phono (or AV) plugs.

Male is (correct me if I'm wrong) the plug portion, while female has the hole(s) in it for the plug(s) to go in. Think anatomy

Female phono plugs are the type that are on the device. Male plugs are attached to a cable, and have a stem to insert into the female. Essentially if you can understand the differences between a wall plug's female and male you can understand this.

oh... so basically the plug is male and the outlet (or whatever you plug into) is the female, thanks!

P.S please correct me if I'm wrong about that though I kind of doubt it
