Is this good for a computer?

Post by Joes2Silly »

I was just wondering if hitting a computer actually solves any related computer problems and in the long run is it okay for you to hit you computer if you have problems with it :?: Its my dumb-*** sister, she has NO computer know-how and she thinks hitting her computer solves everything

no, she's wrong....there might be a loose connection or something, and perhaps hitting the computer may fix that for a while, but it'll only do more damage. what's wrong with the computer?
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

We have already answered your question: no, hitting a computer will either do nothing, or cause more problems. What your sister needs to do is run some clean-up and maintanence apps.

My brother thinks slamming the mouse down on the pad will make our computer unfreeze.

But no, beat your sister with a wooden mallet while she sleeps. That way it might knock some since into her.

I have a Commodore 1902 monitor that sometimes turns on without color. When I smack the top of it, about 4 inches from the right side, it works again.
Warranty-Voiding fun!

Only if it's a mechanical problem. If it's slowing down, and hitting it seems like it MAY actually make a difference, it's probably dust. Take the side off of your tower, and vacuum up any dust that may be in there. If you can, blow the rest of the dust out with compressed air of some sort. My vacuum cleaner allows me to reverse the airflow, so I can make the hose blow instead of suck... wow... that sounds dirty...... anyway... My old computer started closing programs after a certain amount of time. Really... it would just close any program that was even slightly CPU intensive after an hour or so. Turns out, it was overheating. After I cleaned the massive chunks of dust out of it, it never had the same problem again.

Short version: Banging it may be jumbling some of the dust loose, causing it to stay cooler, and thus not start to overheat and slow down.
