PS2 Power Supply Testing

Hey, I just got a broken PS2, and the red light won't even come on, so I'm guessing that the power supply is bad. Does anyone know how I can test it?

well, you'll have to open the PS2 up first. it probably is the power supply....get a multimeter, and set it to volts. plug the AC cord into the power supply (don't touch the power supply though!) and then with the multimeter leads, connect one to one of the outer four pins from the power supply and the other lead to the other outer one. if it reads as 12V (or -12V if you did it backwards

) the power supply is fine. it might be the switch. check the ribbon cable coming from the power button to see if it's connected properly.

if the power supply doesn't read 12V, get a 12V power supply, rated at 2A or so, and connect the negative end to ground (metal strip around the main board, or on one of the pins connected to ground) and the other to the positive pin (there are 4, but two are connected to positive and two are connected to ground).

if all that still doesn't work...then the motherboard might've fried...

Let's just say you're actually willing to Google "multimeter." It's very useful. Someone that doesn't know anything about electronics shouldn't even be attempting a PS2p anyway, but whatever; your call.
