RIP bluey. 2005-2006

my soldering iron is dead. i had just finished filing its crappy corroded tip into what i must say is the best tip i have ever fashioned with a file and then...

nothing. it dosent heat up. the power cord works fine, and there is an incredibly large resistance in the heating element... perhaps too large. i cant quantify it exactly because the battery in my digital meter died. i theorize that it has corroded in half.

sure, this is technically spam/blogging, but everyone does it.

and i loved bluey...

I had my last soldering iron die on me, apparently it wasn't made to run at 30 watts for more than 5 mins at a time.

But now I have a 35 watt Weller iron

I'm sorry tim. Soldering irons are like dogs for us. Definitely my best friend, and a replacement is never the same as the original.

I have a 140 watt Weller soldering gun. Gets hot very fast (like 5-10 seconds) but its a bit hot to leave on electronics for long. Its hot enough that it only takes a second or two to solder something though. The tip is rather large tho.... Weller is a g00d brand name. I have a crappy battery powered weller soldering iron but it sucks.. Sorry to hear about Bluey... I know the feeling

man. 140watt? that might be ok for like wires resistors and caps, but i reccomend you dont get it near any chips

. bluey was 40 watts.

...my latest one has lasted for a while, though. and only one desoldering iron, of course

. all of this from...yup, Radio shack

Kilroy, my first and only iron so far, is starting to get a bit slow now that I think about it.

dang that sucks. my really old nameless soldering iron still heats up perfectly but the tip broke and part got stuck in the screw hole so it can't solder anymore. it makes a good plastic hole puncher though

. my new one's still good so i'll name him "Soldering Iron Man."

A also have a question; Has anyone's soldering tips started to melt themselves? Mine's starting to do that (it was only .99 cents, 15 watts).

Me and my soldering iron fight. One time when the tip needed replacing badly I unscrewed it and the screw broke. So I had to painfully file him down.

The first soldering iron i bought was from radioshack. I took it home, plugged it in and sparks shot out and it died

I got another one exactly like it and it works fine

My soldering iron is at least a few years older I am! original tip too!
