A question on Benjamin's Hand-built SNES...

Be careful still with the bending of aluminum, even if you do buy the plates. Bending the aluminum perfectly around the curves is a crap and a half to do. I still have yet to jam all of my stuff into my case, but I've put my screen in and it fits fine, so I'm fairly confident. Just follow the instructions in the book and you'll be fine.
As for the FX chip, I'm sure it would suck a bit more amperage than normal, but not a significant amount. It is just a small chip after all. Good luck, I can't wait to see how it turns out.

Depends on the screen really more then anything. The SNES requires about 350-400 mA per hour. If your using a Hip Screen then add another 350 mA per hour to that. A PSone screen uses about 750-850 mA, but if you do the LED mod you can cut it's draw down to only ~350 mA.

The ones I have right now are 2300mAH so I can get around 3 hours and 20 minutes from them.

No. He is referring to the Hip Gear Screen Pad LCD. It is probably the most used screen, next to the PSOne screen. They are the PS2 and Xbox screens made a while back that had a mini LCD display attached on top of a controller of that console. The screen is something like 2.6 inches, and much easier to hack than a pocket TV. I'm actually going to use it in my next NOAC portable!
No I'm taking about the Hip Gear Screen, the little 2.6" LCDs mounted to a PS2/Xbox/GameCube controller. If you don't know about them their really popular. They cost about $30 each, use composit input video and sterio input audio, and they have a low power requirment (5v ~350mA). They also work great on any system up to the 32/64 bit system generations.

The super FX chip actually does consume a considerable amount more power than a regular cart, like say, Super Mario World.
I remember this fact when I was building my second SNESp, when I was checking the current draw of the 1992 SNES.
On a regular game, the SNES drew something like 370mA, but with a Super FX game, such as Starfox, the current jumped to about 570-600mA.
This same effect happens with the SNES mini, except the current values are like 250mA and 450mA, respectively.
Hope this clears things up.
