If a kid tries, just make sure to smack 'em aside the head. They've gotta learn sooner or later, anyways.

I very rarely find old Pentium-class computers sitting at the side of the road, but nothing I'd ever be interested in keeping. If I found an old, working laptop, I'd definitely put it to good use.

lcds are sweet but crap for gaming compaired to a good CRT (eg not mine, way dark hardware gamma, cant see ANY THING in doom3 and the brightness adjust in hl2 where it says barely visible, somewhat visable and clearly visible and you adjust a slider to make it so, i can barely see the clearly visible one and cant see the other two >.<) but crt=no ghosting ever and stuff liek that! so what if they weight a TON lol

I had a decent 13" CRT monitor up until about six months ago. Now I have a very nice 19" LCD. I organize my stuff probably similar to the way many of you do and just throw things around my room and once, I threw a knife, and it got stuck -- yes it got STUCK -- in the screen! I walked up and almost cried when I pulled it out because I was afraid It would die. I have a nice little mark where it was but it still works great and the mark is actually barely noticable.

Seriously! All I want right now is a couple SNES games, a small CRT and a spot to put it and all my SNES equipment in my room so I can see it from my bed!

steering back on topic, i (me and my dad) managed to grab a 10 year old 21" screen from some used computer store for $125. its pretty sweet. it came from 'imperial tobacco'. lol the max resolution is only like 1280x1024, but im not complaining.

i also scored a free 19 incher of my grandpa (office comptuer upgrades

I use a 17" lcd and crt at the same time (dual monitors) and I'm typing this on a 12" lcd (iBook)

By the way, dual monitors is the best thing in the world, if you can find another monitor that is about the same size and the same resolution (different horizontal resolution is ok, it's different vertical ones you need to watch out for)

I love my 19" Dell(Sony) Trinitron CRT, it is about 7 years old and still works great. I got it at the thrift store for $4. I went from a 17" running 1280x1024@75hz to a 19" running 1600x1200@85hz, I will never go back to a 17" for daily use. I have a dual head video card, but no room for a second monitor or I would try to find another 19". I don't know if it would really be of much use though, I use the virtual desktops in XFCE on Linux. I could be wrong, I also thought I would never want a monitor over 17".
