New Here! Want to build an NESp! Any pointers?

Hi, I'm new here but I've been on this site MANY times and I wish I had the skill of you guys. Really, everything you do is awesome!

So what I was thinking was pretty much the Game Grrl but a few modifications. I want to use a painted Gameboy Color case. (It's all I have) Here's a photoshop of what I want the finished product to be:

I'm going to use a Hip Gear screen, like the Game Grrl. And I'm going to use the Power Play III, that Pretendo. (that's what I call fake NES's

)

My problems:

A. Will the Power Play III fit in the GB Color? Or should I buy the older bigger one?

B: I have little or no skill in video game modding... This is a problem, right?

C: This probable won't run on two AA's.... What am I going to do?

it won't fit in a GBC case. it does fit in a GBO case though

2 people have done them taht way, search for them

! He's building me a Pretendop with a HipGear screen... Maybe he'll reveal to me his secrets! Nice design man, looks pretty damn cool!

EDIT: Is there a gameboy with a and b buttons right next to each other? Like not slanted? I really want to go for the NES look.

He had to modify the GBO so it could hold 5 AAAs instead of 4 AAs to keep the screen nice and bright.

Hey! Thats not very nice! Any way you are going to have to use the older gameboy unless you knew my NOAC! I will never reveal it! HaHaHaHa!

2. Welcome to the forums!

3. For the A next to B thing, you can always get some bondo and fill in the 'A' hole (hehe) and reposition it. May take some time though.

You can... use a Game Theory Admiral. It fits in a GBA case, as that's basically what it comes in anyway

Actually, the GTA is larger that a GBA, height-wise. You'd have to do moderate hacking to shorten the board up to the point where it was useable... And if you have a GTA, who would do the minor cosmetic surgery? You're not really doing anything

ya there's no point if you just buy a gta... its already a portable noac! I just recommend using the gbo case.

Yeah, GBO is just perfect for the screen and NOAC, it's portable and still contains the joys of NES. If you don't have access to the proper hacking materials and stuff, use the GBO, it looks kewl ('specially the black one

)...

you make it sound like it was easy for G-force to fit his portable into the GBO, he did rewire the cart slot and it looks like he somehow got an amp and the video boards rebuilt and fit in there also

Yeah pretty difficult. It was like cramming a whole box of donuts into a single cup of coffee (lousy example, but you get it). btw, my new one was started yesterday, I'm already mostly done with the case. Bondo is drying as I type and the sanding awaits!

nintendo knew what they were doing when they slanted the BA buttons on the GBO. It makes it much easier for your thumb to switch to. If they were straight you would have to bend your thumb inwards every time you reached for the A button. Its not that big of a deal, but I like them slanted better.

To anser your questions...
A:No. Get a GBO.
B: Yeah it is. Practice on something smaller and cheaper, like a Game Pro 200 (check my site)
C: You can run the screen on 4 rechargable AA's (4.8V) if you do an LED mod to the screen (which is pretty easy). Otherwise you'll need 6V for the normal backlight to work, that's 5 AA's or 5 AAA's.

is it gonna be a hipgear with the controls bondoed into the speaker grills? cause i think that would be pretty sick nasty

Good idea or not posible at all? Also how does the PSone screen hook up to the MegaJoyIII?

Oh and is this WAY to much for my first portable? I've done things LIKE it but... not really.
