computer possibly screwed up

My computer is making funny sounds and when I boot it up after awhile I smell burning plasic. So I open up the computer, but everything is fine. Im thinking about replacing the mobo batery beacuse I got a error message from it or something. Also I have been taking my computer apart to clean it and I added another stick of rat RAM that I found in my desk

maybe it's that defective ram card. also hard drives die more often that other stuff so you might want to check that out

actually, my hard drive is in a plastic removable case so it is highly possible that the hard drive has gone poop

if you think that's it, back up everything you don't want ot loose on a cd or something quick. then carry on whatever after that

actually I was thinking of running it overnight so the hard drive would explode

Also I have absolutly no files I want on the computer. This is just great, now I need a new Hard Drive and possible a CD Drive

uhh, now whatever I do I cant get video on my computer or it wont fully boot up (pretty sure its not that one) each time I boot it up the monitor light blinks a lot but I never get video on the monitor. Is this also a problem caused by the hardrive

What does it sound like when it's like that? (the computer)

If it sounds normal (chugging like it's booting) then it's the video card or circuitry.

If all you hear is either *click*... *click*... *click*... or no HD noises then the hard drive died.

the hardrive is still working, it is just that Im getting no video signal

If your getting no video signal, do you at least get some type of POST? (a single beep means you have a successful post) Your hard drive will NOT keep the computer from at least getting to the BIOS screen. A fuxxored video card however can. Try resetting the CMOS as well as making sure everything is seated properly and all cables are connected.

im allmost positive all of the cables are connected properly but I dont have a video card on my old comp, only a sound card that I need to install some drivers for

So you've got internal video? So whats the mobo look like? Any signs of life? CPU fan spinning up? Can you feel the harddrive spin up?

I hear the hardrive and it is fully functional along with the motherboard, I even removed the possibly bad RAM unit off the mobo

Well in that case theres pretty much two things you could try, 1. reset the CMOS (just remove the battery or find the CMOS clear jumper) or 2. Try someones video card in there.
