update since im here anyways:
part of his problems were being caused by one or more pools of flux in the vicinity of the main CPU.
his sound is still very faint. theres a buzzing noise associated with it, but i think thats just the normal background interference you would pick up when you crank the volume really high because the sound is so faint in the first place.

It was an accidental drop off of my flux-distributor nail. I didn't notice it at all. But yeah, flux = baaahhhhdd. The mini's fine, except for the sound, but that's not a big problem. I'm going to search the board for any more flux bridges.
EDIT: I claned the board, top and bottom, and I'm still getting very little sound. Can sombody tekk me, other than the audio chip, where sound goes from the cart to the A/V out.

Ok, story time:
I was scrweing with my board, touching things, trying to solve the sound problem (Hey! Ben solved the screen brightness that way...sorta...) when I touched a part, and the system went black. I turned it on, and th sound got a lot better for a bit.
I'm fairly confident I have isolated th problem: Th part near the cartridge slot sitting by itself near the main CPU, th silver ovular-shaped piece labelled D21H7N. What is this part?
New information: It appears that it might be a small surfadce mount capacitor near that component. If I attached a capacitor that's signifigantly larger, would it hurt anything?

The oscillator is the crystal that the computer uses to tell the CPU (or any other chips that require a clock speed) what frequency to run at. You can replace the oscillator, just be sure to use either the same speed one.timmeh87 wrote:woah there buddy. youre talking about the oscillator, i think. dont touch that excrement.

Well Tim tried to help me fix it, and ended up making it worse.
Now everything is gone.
EXCEPT THE BUZZING NOISE!!!
Mind you, it's not his fault, he was trying to help. I suppose there's still hope. He touched a capcitor to all the circular +/- spots on the board. Can anybody tell me what these are?
