Dot.TKs

Well, I've seen a lot of people with Dot.TKs, and have a few questions about how it works:
Are they free?
How do you set one up?
How do you trick them out?
How easy to use are they?
Are there better hosts?

The rest would simply be repeat questions, so could someone post the answer to the questions, I'm hoping to build a website revolving around Portable Street. [/list]

Are they free? Yes, but you get more features and less ads on a paid account.
How do you set one up? Go to www.dot.tk to get a free domain name

Are there better hosts? For fee users at least, Dot.tk is not a host. It is a redirection service thta gives you a free .tk domain name. You need seperate hosting from a place like www.100webspace.com

I think you are a bit confused about .tk's. These are not hosts for your site, they just make it easier to get to your site. For example, if you are using angelfire (why anybody uses that crap is beyond me, but people do) you will get some long filename, like angelfire.com/coolio13/thisisreallytheonlythingyouchoose. Sometimes it's nice to have a real domain, so you can sign up for a domain of your choice on dot.tk. In your settings, you have it go to angelfire.com/coolio13/thisisreallytheonlythingyouchoose and it will redirect you when you go to your .tk domain.

i just learned (from black6) about google pages, i dont know much but it sounds like a superior alternative to geocities. it is early testing phase right now but looks great (like all things google!) pages.google.com

And you can get rid of the .TK ads too. I never noticed you could, but Spongebuell did. You just log in and it's somewhere in the settings.

Are you sure you don't have to pay to remove the ads? I know there's some php/java hack you can throw in there...
