Buzzing noise

Post by Kurt_ »

I didn't change anything on my snes (since my last post) that would cause this. When I plug the SNES in, I don't get video/audio, but a buzzing sound (that slowly gets louder) can be heard. What component is causing this?

Hmmmmm... When you say no visual, are you first getting light then slowly getting darker w/ funny colors? If so, then your ribbon cable may have fallen out. Too, open it up and check your solder connections on audio and video make sure they are still in tact.

I'm still using the original A/V out to a TV and the power jack. See my other post for everything i've done to it so far.

When it's plugged in to batteries (to pin 3 on the regualtor with 4 AA's) the system flickers and then goes a slightly higher shade of black on the screen. The system is not broken it's just not working.

Just a note: I did rewire the controller port but I don't think that would affect anything.

However, yesterday I had the system working with video, and a lot of interference with the sound, and the sound was rather quiet.

instead of going through the regulators 3rd pin try going through the first with more power so the power is actually regulated and maybe try jumping the big white fuse

Are all your ground wires connected to the same point? You could be experiencing somethng called ground loop interference. Car nuts know what this is, you just need to connect all your grounds to the same point. Make sure your power supply is stable also.

The fuse is alrady jumped/ I didn't do anything that would break it in that way since then.

Right now I'm still using the wall supply and going to the TV, so I can't join the grounds.

Quick Question(s):

1) The 1500 fuse. That's a 1.5A surfacmount fuse right? With my tendency of everything I touch dying, I'd like to replace it asap.

2) My reading across the fuse (although it's by-passed) shows a conection, but 0 volts going through it. But volts measures potential difference right?

And um..the buzzing noise now only occurs as you plug it in. And that's when the tv goes a bit fuzzy. For a split second. Maybe a capacitor problem? I haven't touched them...

I still get the buzzing jolt when you plug it in, but I wiggled the game a bit and ti works. Looks like it was all just a dirty connection. What would be the best way to go about cleaning the cartridge slot on a SNES? It seems a bit small to do the NES method.

I'm getting lines across my screen (like on a dirty nes game) , and in zelda the ltters are mied up. My Name on it (Kurt) is something like Qrhh. Is this all due to a dirty connection or something more that I'm missing?

(Sorry for so many posts in a row, I guss I'm being a bit n00bish/worried about my system. If I mess this up I won't be able to portablize ANYTHING EVER until I move out.)

Ok well I realised it's not a dirty cartridge slot.

When I plug it in, it's good for a couple seconds then goes weird. I think it might be a heat problem, but I have the 7805 heat sink on, and on the other side it doesn't feel hot at all...

Also, the buzzing noise starts when the...pixellation starts.

When I say a couple seconds I'm talking 20-30.

Is it possible the capacitors are the problem? I'm sure I had (at least for a bit) the current going backwards through the SNES. But I don't think I had it on long enough to wreck a capacitor...

Is this a possibility? What do the capacitors control?
