Insane PC cooling ideas

There's a few people who have built computers into a freezer. Idea isn't original, so move along kid.

Just because an idea isn't original, doesn't mean it shouldn't be done. Hell, building portables isn't really "original" anymore, but people still do it. Granted, this is a bit less practical, but I think your response was a bit snappy...

oh my dad is friends with a guy that made one of those submerged pcs only he used mineral oul instead of cooking oil. (cooking oil goes bad and then stinks) his setup is a P4 overclocked to 4.0 Ghz, 6 gigs of ram, 1Tb Hdd, Win XP media center, I don't know about gfx but im sure its good. it is awesome because it has no fans therefore it is silent.

that sounds sweet, and besides the silence, it has the coolness factor that your PC is submerged in oil

But won't the oil get hot with a rig that OC'ed to the max? someone nitro-cooled a PC. That was cool.

I don't know it doesn't overheat as far as I know.

If you could get the oil hot enough, you could make yummy homemade doughnuts with it. Heck, you could make fried chicken!

The heat absorbed is going to depend on the mass of the substance that is cooling it and it's specific heat. 8 gallons of oil has a lot better potential to absorb heat than some of the water cooling systems I've seen.

That would be some crazy, no, impossible overclock... I think the highest so far is either 6 or 7 ghz (with liquid nitro cooling of course).

Stick everything but the power supply in a fish tank, and fill it with this non conductive fluid. Now, THAT would be cool (and easy!)
