Too Much power is needed to run the machine. And that would be a lot of batteries to run the machine for a decent amount of time.

Not only that but its basically a computer so it needs crazy voltages. I think its something like +12, -12, +5, -5 and +3, -3... somewhere in that ballpark "to lazy to look it up".

You know what, It's not THAT hard, actually... hmm. I dunno, you could probaby throw in 12 D batteries in there... It would probably fit in place of the crazy big PSU.

I dunno, it wouldn't be TOO hard...

Your actually kind of right. Although it wouldn't be too hard, it would still be:

Too big
Too Heavy
Too Power Consuming
Too Frustrating to make
Too costly (maybe)
Too etc....

the backpack Idea would always work, but I wouldnt consider that handheld. the only casework is attaching a controller to a screen and then have the wire go into the bag for the XBOX.

If you want to make the XBOX portable, I guess the easiest way (if you dont feel like opening it) is to get one of those power converter things in your car, and if there isint a DVD player in there, hook it up to a screen.(which is plugged into the other outlet on the converter.)

Actually, I remember buying that WORTHLESS screen from I=MCM (I now HATE the guy in the NESp site), and thought of an alternate, buy hooking it up into one of our worthless cupholders, wire it to the 12V cigarette slot, using finely placed wires, then add an amp with speakers. It's basically a screen with blank RCA outputs, so a DVD player, GC, or XBOX would work, but there is no XBOX battery so BAH to that. I've playn DVD players, GC's, PS2's, and a PSONE in the car! :)

The idea of a portable here is usually a handheld. The Xbox will not fit that as it requires 2.2+ Amps per hour, has a large DVD-Rom, and the motherboard is about 9x9 (inches). If you were to work on it there are ways to get around some of the size issues. However it will be expensive, like a mod chip, laptop hard drive (or microdrive), and performing a mod to replace the DVD-Rom with a laptop (slim) DVD-Rom.

There are people working on portable PCs that are more likely to work then an Xbox. We don't work on the Xbox for the fact that the challange out weights the award.

Feh, I want to make one some day just to prove it can be done. 9" by 9" isn't HUGE. The portable wouldn't fit in your pocket, but it could fit in a backpack or something. (And no, I'm not talking about putting an X-Box in a backpack and then putting a car battery in there and a pair of video glasses on your head ect. I'm talking about a handheld with screen and batteries built-in.)

Just hold stack of about 400 sheets of printer paper in your hands horizontally, probably rest it on your lap, and that would probably be about the size and weight of an X-Box portable. Replace the HDD with a laptop drive, replace the DVD drive with a laptop drive, and get ten 22,000 mAh Ni-Mh D batteries (probably about 4 pounds total for the batteries) and a PSOne screen. Add about 2 months worth of work and a custom built PSU and BOOM, you're done. Just don't expect to be able to hold it in your hands without resting it on something.

Edit: Also, 2.2 amps per hour isn't a lot. Those batteries I mentioned should last 10 hours if this is the case. 'Course that's not including the screen or anything, but still.
