Crazy 2600 question.

Hi guys,

I can't believe it. This is my 3rd attempt on this particular car slot. I was so shocked to see any image (even though it isn't too clear)! I totally failed trying to do the n64 cart slot. I highly recommend the 2600, there are only 24 pins. Whew.

Now I just have to figure out how to attatche the cart to the back GBA style. Please advise. Thanks.

Nice job Jeff!
I'd make some angle brackets, and screw them into the Atari cart slot (sort of like Ben did his N64 slot.)

I also forgot to PM you, my N64 power brick works now, so I'm almost done rewiring the cart slot on the new N64.

doesn't that video mod not work with psone screens? if you do that one then you should probably go with hip gear. here's the newer better one that works with psone screens

I used Ben's updated version of his composite mod on my 4 switch 2600. Using potentiometers helps fine-tune your picture.

Ah, but I'm using a 2600 jr, & I think the mod you just showed me is for the 4 switch (I hope I'm wrong).

There are some difference between the junior and the 4 switch, but as far as the video mod goes there should be little you need to change. Just have to find the spots that corrispond to the 4 switch and you should be able to figure it out from there if need be.

Hi guys,

I'm trying to figure out where I can drill holes for my cart slot brace. Are the places that I put red dots ok? Thanks.

The side that was already braced didn't require any holes, one of screws is only holding the brace together & the other one is going through the 7805 hole. THanks.

as long as you don't cut through any components on either side (be sure you have it measured perfectly) or any traces, you should be fine. If the hole drilled is as big as the picture, you should be fine with the bottom one, since the current will still be able to flow in the other areas. As far as I know, the 2600 board doesn't have any of that multi layer stuff, so there shouldn't be any traces inside the motherboard.

Oh yeah, you do have something underneath that metal brace, don't you? You don't want to cause a short, you know

Hi guys,

I decided to go with the vid mod on atariage, mostly for ease of use. I'm thinking quality of video isn't going to be a big factor, these are just 2600 games anyways. I'm confused on one item - though. It's the ground. Can someone please help me understand how to make sure I ground this correctly. Thanks.

1. Now you connect the Video. Solder a "jumper" (a piece of wire) from R41 (Chroma) to TP5 (Luma), then connect an RCA cable to TP5. The jumper must connect to the bottom of the Chroma resistor (as shown). It will not work if you hook it to the top of the resistor. Be sure to ground the cable. Do not ground the jumper!

Those bare metal areas, such as around the voltage regulator in the lower left corner, is all ground. Connect that to the outer part of the video plug. (the RCA jack) The video signal goes to the inner "hole."

Thanks for being so great with answering all my questions. I'm not sure I understand your last reply - though. Please see my picture below. I thought that I could connect my brown wire (audio) and yellow wire (video) directly to the hip gear screen wires (audtio/video). I'm still not sure how to ground these wires. Also the on/off switch on the atar has a 3 prong switch, how can I hook up my battery pack to it? Thanks again.
