WHat is the best web freeweb hosting service?

I dunno, www.bravehost.com is alright. Free templates and stuff. only catch is one advertisement bar at the top

Whatever free web host you use with no hitches (ie you don't have to sign up for their forum and be an active member or you have to give them your personal information) will have ads.

Sites to definitely avoid:
-GeoCities: they give you piddling amopunts of storage and have a huge advertisement sidebar
- Tripod: they don't allow hotlinking of anything, and they don't give you any more space than Geocities does

I recommend www.100webspace.com . They give yo 100 megs of storage, a database for blogs or choutboxes or forums, FTP access, and a web page that lets you upload files from there rather than FTP. I used them for a while, their service is pretty reliable. However unlike Geocities they don't give you a site builder tool. You will have to either make all the HTML yourself in Notepad or use another program like NVU (free), the web composer from the Mozilla suite (free), or FrontPage (not free).

I use FrontPage for my site. It's OK, especially when I turn off all the proprietary systems so my sites will render in Gecko-based browsers and things like Konqueror. If you want to see my ancient 100webspace site (I abandoned it months and months ago), it's at http://bicnam.farvista.net . For my newer, better site click my www button. For my latest and greatest site, you're going to have to wait until I upload it (hopefully it will be done before the anniversary of my joining benheck rolls around!)

The best thing to do is look around at different free hosts to find one that suits your needs and isn't shady.

well I'm confused. I tried the 100 web space but when I try to make a user name and a password, it keeps saying invalid password or invalid username. I then tried signing up again but it says an account with the same e-mail adress already exists. Does anyone know how to fix this?

http://www.275mb.com is good. Guess how much space you get? I'm pretty sure it's ad-free too. I made a few flash sites with it.

i use esmartstart because it's so easy to use and works for what i need it for. here's the pros and cons of it:

good
-easy to use
-no ads if you use firefox
-250 mb space
-25mb bandwidth a day, refreshes ever day (that's roughly 1gb a year)
-templates (i don't know how good they are cause i just use raw html)
-usually fast and reliable
-very good and easy to use file manager

bad
-1mb file size limit
-i don't know if you can host a forum on it, but thats what forum hosting sites are for (forumup.org has very convenient placement of it's ad)

Btw, that does suck. I do pay for mine at $10/month, but I get 1 TB/month.

I used tripod for my first site and it wasn't that bad the only problem is i only got like 20 MB of room.

my first site was geocities before the massive ad thingy showed up, it went down really often! like everytime i had more than 5 hits a day >.<
