Port Washington Premiere

Post by benheck »

There's something on the main page too. Looks like Port Washington will be done in March.

I'm planning a premiere somewhere in central Wisconsin (not sure exactly where and when though), but I was also thinking - what if we had an "online premiere" as well?

Thing is, as yet I don't have a place to put it. Anyone have a lot of unused bandwidth and space and want to give it a go?

I can convert it to a variety of formats, perhaps something like Quicktime that can stream?

Thoughts? You can also email me if you have ideas (use real email, not the PM's)

Note: Port Washington is about a PG-13 level show, for language, violence and some sexual innuendo.

Sounds neat, Ben. I wish I lived anywhere near Madison... Or in Wisconsin at all for that matter. Glad to see Port Washington is on it's way. It's taking a long time to get here though  ! On a different note, did you get those button flanges cut?

Maybe you could host Port Washington in chat? I don't know how chat works though...

Boy that would be a long drive from Taxachusetts for me... but the trailer looks promising!

A lot of streaming media doesn't work for me due to network hardware security, and my dad won't change any of it because his work telecommuting machine is also at the same level mine is. Could we set up a few test streams before the premiere to find a protocol or port address that works for everyone?

I think that there should definitely be enough for this on portablesofdoom.org, with about half of a terabyte per month :)

(ok, so it's technically gannon's bandwidth, but the site is technically half mine... and I'm sure gannon will agree ;) )

Thank you Spongey, I will now release those embarrasing photos I took of you when you were naked on fewer websites than originally intended!

At least the project will be done. I'd love to see the premire... but there is no way I can justify driving to Wisconson to see a movie. Well if you release a trailor on portablesofdoom that would be cool.

Innuendo, I love that word.

I'm going up there in March to see my cousins. Hopefully I'll be able to make it.

Awesome, I'm glad to hear it's finally almost done (not to say that it's getting done by itself :P).

Can't make it to the WI premiere, but I'll definitely have to download it.

I just thought of something... where are you going to show this for the real thing? I remember back when you thought it would be released over the summer (HA! :P ) you were planning on renting a theatre outside of Madison. Is that still your plan, or are you going to do something more informal?

Sounds good, Gannon. Any particular file type you'd recommend? Target size?

It's 90 minutes long.

Yeah, I'd like a "Internet Premiere" for people that don't live near me. Also it would help people see it.

Gannon, I could burn a disc of the file (once it's done) and mail it to you for your posting, then you could send me the link,

Does POD REALLY have unlimited bandwidth? I mean, I know having a PW download on this site wouldn't work...

How much do you think the movie would weigh (size)?

A torrent should be in order, from multiple seeders.

The movie WEIGHS very heavy on my mind!

I dunno... what's a reasonable Bittorrent size? (I don't use it, so I have no clue)

I could probably have a DIVX made, that'd be what, 3 gigs or so? If possible I want to make available a 640x480 30 FPS version. (DVD quality)

Gannon, or whomever, let me know what size is best, which format is good, and I'll shoot for that.

I have no idea yet on where the actual premiere would be. I thought about perhaps someplace in Wisconsin Dells. (Desert Star Cinema maybe?)

Hmm, Torrents are known to be very large actually. Due to *cough coughs*.

If you have a good connection (many seeders, not many leechers), then a gigabyte of file(s) can take as little as 1.5 hours, and as much as 3 hours.

If you want to do a BitTorrent, I suggest you host the torrent and then let around 10 people download the torrent a few days before the premiere so they can start seeding (sharing) the file.

Because the file will be legal, many people will be willing to seed/host it (including me :D).

Just a tip.
