Replacing some parts...

id say just buy a 7808 from digikey and a new 7805 and make it way easier for ya instead of replacing all these other parts in the LM317T's circuit

Hmm...this sounds interesting. I may try it out if I can't get the one thats already done working. Can you pm me on how its built? Thanks a lot

you dont have to built anything it just has 3 pins in out and ground and it will output8 volts. and then just use a normal 7805

Thanks turbo, I will definitely look into that further if my circuit still decides not to work on me.

I do have some good news...after replacing the parts, I realized the ribbon cable to the screen wasn't connected securely and my video wire was loose. After fixing around a couple things I turned it on and I get a black screen that is lit (not grey) and the brightness/volume buttons work and they are the correct color. Before changing the resistors, I got the volume/brightness bars in purple with a grey screen. I sense I'm getting to something. There is one more part I forgo to replace in the circuit itself...it connects to one of the leads of the LM317T. I believe its a .1uf capacitor. Once I replace it I will update what happened. Oh yeah and I tested with my multimeter on the 7805 and here are my newest voltages: (left pin) 8.95v (middle pin)0v (right pin) 4.55v

I didn't check my screens voltage, but I believe I'm getting a sufficient amount since the volume/brightness works now. (at least I fixed something this whole time)

Well I hope replacing this part fixes it once and for all...I doubt it but wish me luck anyways

Ok..um nothing happend once again. I decided to test the volts flowing to the screen and its exactly 7.2v, which is enough to power the screen. The only parts really left to replace in my power circuit are the resistors that are around the tact switches for my controls. I don't know if there is a need to even replace them because I donn't think its part of the power circuit. So, yeah I don't know what to do next. If I can't think of anything else, or if somebody has some bright ideas I think I'll do what turbo said and wish for the best.

EDIT: I think I'm going to try replacing my 7805, incase it has gone bad. Blah, I feel like this thread is my own blog

The 7805 has been successfully replaced.

Good News: I now get 5v instead of 4.55v

Bad News: NES still isn't working

What to do now? I just don't know.

Any ideas anyone? Sorry if I'm sounding very n00bish, but I mean I've really worked hard on this portable and basically started on it with zero knowledge of electronics. Can anyone help me out, tell me to check things or something? How would I check if my nes died from this point? I don't feel like giving up on a project I've spent an extremely long time working on

Ugh, check any shorted wire, especially behind any electrical tape.

Skyone, if you realize in each of those posts I was posting new information or trying something new...its my own thread and I'm posting useful information. Thanks for the tip, I've already checked that. Well, today my screen doesnt even turn on and I'm really fed up with this project. It is officially discontinued until further notice. Hopefully I wont do any more quadruple posts that may piss someone off, mods you can lock this thread if you'd like.
