I have some info that may be interesting for you.
In the other site there was a guy (Brian was his name if I remenber correctly) who told gannon that he could tell him a way to make the N64 controller really small, but he also said that that post was his last post and told gannon to e-mail him if he wanted to test his method, I don't know if he did, but I e-mailed him and told him that I was interested and he sent me a picture and some instructions, but right now Im not at portable building because I dont have all the parts needed and also I don't have money right now, also I bought a SNES Mini off of eBay, but it never arrived .
If someone's interested let me know, the picture is BIG, but I don't know how to put images (does they have to be on a web page?), so if somebody can tell me how I will post it here and also his instructions, so if someone's interested feel free to post and also help me with the image posting.

Hey man sorry, I never got back to you sooner. That was a long time ago.
Shrinking the controller is very easy. Inside the 64 controller is a chip
that drives the whole controller, I call it a smartchip, because I've heard
somone before me refer to it that way. But what you do is cut that chip out
and solder you controls directly to that using minature pushbuttons. While I
never soldered it, I did test the method, and pined-out all the main
buttons. The joystick is a bit incmplete due to my bad notes, but I'm sure
you can figure it out. There also might be a wire I didn't include to the
control port. Keep in mind doing this will eliminate the expansion on the
back of the controller, so if you wanted rumble support you better not
attempt it. Good luck man, if you don't completely understand let me know.

Hope this help and works, and if someone manage to make it and also get all the pinout of the chip it may still be possible to have the expansion port on the controller, but as he said this is not finished, but I really know that you guys here may be able to finish it and find everything out.

That's nice and easy, but then again it means that the memory card slot is the only thing that requires all those resistors and other chips.
Also, without the noise filter (the big blue thing) might it be slightly less responsive?
Ok I'm almost done mapping it all out. I haven't included any of the resistors yet, but I'll add that stuff tomorrow when I clean up my diagram a bit.
It's good for now though. The guy who originally did it did leave some important stuff out that I'll add tomorrow as well. Mainly the fact that the red and white wires go through a series of resistors and a transistor before entering the chip.
You write in a combonation of print and cursive, that's how I write when I'm in a hurry, when I'm writing something that I don't care about, That's also how I wright.
I've just finished mapping everything out including all the capacitors and resistors, and I've noticed that most of the capacitors are only used for decoupling and I'm pretty sure that they are not necessary for use of the chip. I'll try and draw a cleaned up diagram to put up pretty soon.

I forgot to mention this, but the blue component that I thought was a noise filter
is actually the controller chips ext. clock.
Ok, I still haven't gotten around to drawing out the technical circuitry yet but I've been kinda busy working in CAD.
For know I have the most of the direct hookups for the chip though. Also, it's come to my attention after doing this that it would probably be smaller to actually keep the complex circuitry and chip attatched to the controller, cut off the sides of the board, and just wire the buttons directly to the chip. http://gannon.tk/n64-controller.txt

I'm a bit short for space and could really do with out the D Pad bit on my controller board (I'm using an official one). Can I hack that party of the board off? as shown below....

after the board is hacked doown to the size of the chip is it possible to add a rumble pack because there are 4 lines of pins i dont know which relater to what pin on the rumble pak

you can take off as much as you want aslong as it does not cut the traces of anything you need and that line is the perfect spot to cut it
