SNES Controller to GBA SP

Post by mamerocks87 »

I know dont attack me. im doing a gba sp mod. I am creating a new vacume formed case and it will look as though a snes controller is built in. I want to use a snes controller board and hook it up to the gba sp control joints. The original gba controls will not be used. I hope this makes since. Anyways please point me in the right direction about how to splice the controller board ect. and wire it up. crap i know this sounds retarded, but anyways. Thanks guys for all of the help in advance. Sorry for doing a mod and not doing a console portable, im a loser. there i attacked myself so you dont have to.

-kyle,

ps: im not a kid-im in college so know fanboy gba critics.

I know there was a guy who made a SNES controller that plugged in through the link cable slot, but that was only used for SNES Advance(the emulator for GBA)
SNESp - 100%
Protable X - 15% - I need money :(

It sounds like a pretty good project - I got no problem with it. Does anybody know if the GB's buttons just need to be pulled low or does the input go to an IC like in the NES or SNES controllers?

All help would be greatly appreciated...Here are some links i have found that will possibly help me out:

sp guts:

controller hack (standard gba)

http://www.konlabs.com/articles%5Fdata/gba%5Fconsole/

---

Things i want to incorporate:

--will feel much like holding a snes controller (much like a modified
standard gba design)
--video inputs just for the heck of it (i will need to hack a 3 cart selector deal)

--And i would like to have rgb output but i want the design to be sleek and then, so hacking a transcoder deal for the gba (like on the link above) might be to bulky. I am not sure how well i could slice it up...

Any comments or ideas>

-kyle

ps: not sure when i will get started but college is kickin my but right now so time is limited at the moment...

Can't help you much on the GBA/SP thing, but I can tell you about the RGB thing. The only thing that output RGB from the GBA was called the Transverter, and sorry to say it was discontinoued awhile ago. The item was also only made for the GBA so it wont fit in the GBA SP.

If you're willing to take a hit to video quality there are adapters that will take the video signal and make it composite. You could wire it up to an LCD. Other then that option, you're left with just leaving the GBA SP as is.

There is the TV tuner, http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?catego ... ts_id=2078&

The guy that did the GBA Console also compares it to the Transverter, http://www.konlabs.com/articles_data/gb ... /index.htm
