do speakers affect ram/power?

i'm finally putting my N64p together and i found 2 really convenient places to put the speakers: on eaither side of the expansion pack, one of which is right next to the power switch. would the magnetic fields from the speakers cause any kind of distortion with the ram/power?

It might be a problem if it was right next to your DC-DC converter (would mess up RF coil if it wasn't shielded) but otherwise don't worry about it.

well its not actually an "RF" coil, its an inductor (you should know that marshall). im not sure if it would actually mess it up. at least not a constant magetic field (the flux in the speakers' magnetic field is almost negligible)

in general, hard drive platters and magnetic tape is the only place were you really gotta worry. ram and other such things does not rely on magnetism to work. ive kept gameboy carts in my pocket next to strong magnets (by accident). they still work fine.

im not exactly sure what your problem is sky. the point of these forums is to share what we know with other people.

i didnt mean to sound high and mighty or anything like that, i honestly believe that marshall SHOULD know that, and that he probably does. i corrected him for the benefit of anyone who might read that and then belive that that thing is an RF coil (which it isnt)

and btw, theres no need to keep magnets away from capacitors. im not sure why you think that.

Right, the only magnet that really affects flash memory and the like would suck the iron right out of your body. Even for HDDs you would need a pretty damn powerful magent to do anything.

Here's here's the difference between merely sharing what you know, and coming off as an ass in the process:

If you're here to share what you know, extraneous comments, like the one bolded, aren't needed. This isn't the only time you've talked down on other people, either; this instance isn't so bad, but in other posts you have been much worse.

I don't think he's talking down on marshall, more being suprised (due to marshell's eliteness) that he did not know\mention it.

You really shouldn't automatically think the worst of something, it's not a good habit.

The point is not what your interpretation of the comment can make it out to be for you personally, sniper. The point is that it can, whether by you or someone else, be viewed with a negative connotation. A simple remedy would be not to include it at all.

I know this instance isn't bad: "This isn't the only time you've talked down on other people, either; this instance isn't so bad, but in other posts you have been much worse." I just said that in a previous post.

And the problem is not seeing the worst in this one, isolated incident. It's a pattern that can be seen throughout his posts. Obviously, Sky has noticed it, too, probably due to this: "yeah sky, think for a minute... if there are 3 power pins... how dows the controller work... magic?"

Now how is that remark "sharing what you know"?

my friend goes on about this all the time: without emotion behind words, things are so often misconstrued on the internet. for example, jay, you sorta just came off as an ass there too, although im sure you meant well. (and i, in turn, just came off as an ass again. oh the repeated irony)

is it just me, or is this forum turning into some sort of flame arena today. why cant people just get along nicely?

fanboy, in the spelling thread you didnt actually do anything wrong. i actually didnt know it was a word until i looked it up

ps. i skipped to the bottom of this thread before reading one of skyones responses before, and i have this to say: if this was any other day, i wouldnt have made that snippy little remark. but you earned it man. you earned it.

and yes, i was really not hoping for two flame wars in one day.

on a side note, i once read a little thing about "the biggest flame war in usenet history", involving the programmer who worked on some long-delayed nerd game. does anyone know what his name was, i forget... theres some funny pictures of him holding what he claims is a rock from mars that someone gave him.
