Radica Portable

Hi, you know if you replace the rom chip in a radica with a cartrige slot you get a semi-portable. Does anyone know how to transform that to an actual portable (with batteries, possibly a built in controller, etc.)?[/u]

If you look down the left side of the benheck home page and look at ben's "making of story" on the Exodus it hammers out the rough details. As for stuff like the pinout for the cart slot > Radica, Ben has that in the download section. Batteries are easy just get a 4 AA connector and solder that were the DC input is.

um... yah, i forgot to say i'm a noooooooooooooooob. So I understand little of that stuff

. . So... could I somehow use a genisis 3 mobo and do something with that instead?

There's Ben's portable Genesis. You can also make a portable out of the Genises 3, yes.

The only real excuse for being a newbie here is if you have no soldering experiance, and if that's the case you get some broken or old (useless) stuff to practice on.

If you want to use a Genesis v3, there isn't much difference. In this case you don't have to solder a cart(ridge) slot onto the board. You do need to connect battery power to the contacts were the power adapter pluged in, you should desolder that plug from the Genesis (wont be of any use any more). For controlls you will have to solder the 9 wires from the controller to the contacts on the under side of the board. And the last one is solding wires to the A/V spots (were the auido/video cable connects) and then connect them to at screen.

You can ask some members who have build or worked on Genesis for help. I'm sure they'd be more then willing to assist you.

P.S. If this sounds complecated... It isn't, it's really simple.

oh...... in that case it does sound pretty easy

. Unfortunatley I might have to get the PSone screen in about 2 months (in that case I might ask more in a month or two) on my b-day. =( But ty!
