Ancient QBASIC 4.5

Does anyone still use this for programming? I'm trying some stuff, and want to know something.

I know that I can execute a command from the command prompt in my program using the SHELL command (I am trying to get the DOS version using SHELL "VER"). But I need to get that info and put it in a string. I tried SHELL "VER">VERSION$ but it didn't work. I'm out of ideas now. Can anybody help me?

You could make a BAT file and put this in it:

@echo off
ver << version.txt
type version.txt

This will create a file called version.txt and you should be able to load that into QBasic.

I don't know what verion of QBASIC it was but I used it in my Intro to Programming class this past fall. If you want it I can email it to you, it's only about 6MB in size.

...Would you happen to be at a specific Northeast Ohio college? O.o (had the same software in the same nammed course.)

Ah, no. I live and attend school in Michigan. Baker College is were I go.
