generic cdrom

Some one said in my previous post about the compatibility of the CDROM that the PSOne has a generic cdrom drive. So, the other day I open up my discman and look at the cdrom and it has a different power connector (but same amount of wires and I think the same connections) but the exact same data connector! So before I risk damaging either my discman laser or the psone mobo do you think the discman CDRom would work with the PSOne? I don't think I'll do it with my $80 discman, but do you think it is worth buying a $10 cheapo discman from walmart to try this?

Well, considering they're both made by Sony, I'd guess they probably use the same data protocol, if only because it is cheap to re-use a single CD drive design. It would probably work, but probably only with Sony cd players (and probably older ones at that.)

Forget about using anything from those $10 CD players, they're so awful I'm amazed they haven't been pulled because of excrement sound quality.

the games would load slower because PSone cd drives are 2x speed but cd players are only 1x speed, but other than that it might work

well it isn't a REAL discman. it is made by koss, not sony but u get the idea.
