If you used a NOAC, then that is huge. There has to be a lot of empty space in there.

fanboy, let me think about what you said. It takes me so long to make these, I don't know how little I can charge to make it worth my while, but I'll send you the stencil for the case if you want. I made it in Adobe Illustrator. I used a RotoZip to cut the circle and Xacto for everything else. The sides are just bent aluminum.

joedog, The top is red 1/16" engraving plastic, the side is 3/4" aluminum. Another 3/4" piece is going on the back, that will hold the cartridge and battery. Basically the rear piece will be the same specs and the front piece. The decals are basically Ben's for the Handbuilt NES portable in his book. I customized them a bit, printed them on sticker paper, laminated them, then stuck them on the unit. Go ahead and steal it if you want, the more the merrier!

turbotax, I'll be working on the unit today and take some pictures of the inside. It is a tight fit, with the 5" screen so it's a little messy. The outside is MUCH nicer.

Awesome portable! I'm lovin the design. I don't think you could make it smaller than that and still have a 5" screen. How did you get the d-pad and buttons to not hit the LCD board? It looks like they'd be right on top of it.

If you could send some plans and stencils that would be great, although you might want to send the files over PM, as my parents won't let me accept e-mails with attatchments. Also, does it have cart-slot? Where did you get your plastic? I've been looking for a sign-shop around my area but can't find one, and if there's a good one in Philly, I can get there, I live in South Jersey... I'm right across the bridge and I go in almost every Monday

... Once again that's one DAMN SWEET PORTABLE!

Man, that has to be the best non-Ben portable I've seen

If you so sell these, you can sure get a lot more than $160... probably $300 for something like that (although, I think the fact that a portable is made by Ben kind of raises the value, but that is definitely Ben-quality)

Ok, here's some pics of the inside as some of you requested. I'm just finishing up the back piece . I'll post pics of that later today.
The circuit boards for the controls are under the screen. That was the only way I could fit them. The other pics are the stripped down noac, and the controller board from a yobo controller.

fanboy, I'l pm you those designs. And also, if you live in south jersey you are in luck becasue that is where i get my engraving plastic. There is a place called NASH engraving. http://nashind.com/ They are awesome. Just walk in and buy sheets of plastic for about $15 each.[/img]
