Sony really did it this time...

This may be old news to you, but to me it was new, and somewhat scary to hear.

I was at the dentist yesterday and picked up a PC magazine. An article caught my eye about Sony using a new copy protection on their music CD's. As I read on, I learned that they employed hacker techniques to install their own cute litle copy protection scheme. It invades your computer without you knowing, theres no option to uninstall it, it even makes a hole for more viruses to get in. I read somewhere else that it can even damage your CD drive (not sure if thats true). Sony went WAY over the line, thinking they could do whatever they wanted to protect their precious data.

Is it just me or are you feeling very mad at Sony right now. What with the PSP updates, and the possible one-time-only PS3 disk install, and now this. It's getting harder and harder to take this crap. Sony fanboys take note, this is why we Sony-bash. Sony has very little (if any) no respect for the consumer.

Yeah, this was on slashdot, it's the rootkit scandal. Sony soon issued a patch for it, but the patch made things worse. They really screwed themselves over.

well, the 1.5 and 2.0 PSPs are nice

...

but as for this.....well....I must say Sony, you really do just suck ass and deserve the worst possible punishment

. I mean really. Enough is enough. Just quit with all the copyright protection crap, it's not helping you at all, IMHO. The hell with buying CDs from Sony now.

Meh, as long as there are still line-in ports on computers, audio cables, and Audacity, Sony's copy protection spyware isn't worth excrement.

Wait... so if the software gets onto your computer without your consent, it causes secruity vulverabilities... yeah they definitely went WAAAAY out of line here! Sounds like spyware to me!

At least they're recalling the affected discs...

Even odder, a while ago I was browsing through the forums while playing Goldeneye (on my TV next to my monitor), and guess who I shot whilst reading one of your posts?

BTW I foudn out there are several versions of the theme song while watching the other day. I still I like the old MacGyver theme better than the redone version.

Back on topic, anybody live near a place with big fish? Get one of those big fish...walk/drive/hitchhike/flap arms fast/ and go to sony headquarters. Then... With the fish...*SLAP* the president as he gets in his car. That'll teach 'em!

But yeah, another reason to not like Sony. We can only hope that Sony has a pie with its name on it somewhere (at least Bill Gates already got his, heh heh).

It's gonna be even worse when Vista comes around... DRM's and copy protection all over the place. So when that fatefull day comes, I'm switching to Linux.

Face it guys DRM is really here to stay it made it's way in during the days of the Playstation. Now I know that DRM can be good and bad. Case in point is Apple has a DRM, however they aloue you to move the songs to 10 other devices or computers. Sony's scheme to have a DRM that told them what you were doing with their product and anything else on your computer is wrong, and is the reason they are hit with 3 U.S. states filing law suits against them.

Really the fact that companies think that more and more of their IP is getting pirated they're playing the worst trump card. I've read they have some stupid DRM on Windows Media Edition, you record a tv show and a week or two it's automaticly deleted. They're bound to have something to spy on your computer in Vista, aside from the fact that Microsoft is planning to have a messure that will check your computer for any illegally obtained software.

Really I think this is a fad, something they're doing becuase they think it's good for business and the costumers will put up with it. I have bases for this but I think that the public will get tired of all the really restrictive DRMs in 2-3 years. I think so namely becuase they're lossing a battale with the costumers and the fact that all the new DRM can be cracked after a few weeks or months. It's really looks to be becoming a big hole they're shoveling money into, with no payback.
