MP3 clients

Post by gannon »

I'm making mp3 player PCs for my house to stream music from my server and play it. I hope for them to be small and quiet, but there are a few methods to going about it.
Hardware & software for each method (Not including OS, Mobo, Ram, Case, or PSU):

Remote Boot Method:
Server:

dhcpd
pxe
tftpd
nfs
NIC
HDD

Client:
Network Bootable NIC

Client Boot Method:
Server:

nfs
NIC
HDD

Client:
NIC
HDD, FDD, or other storage device large enough for an OS

The problem is that with the 1st method I'd have more software and hardware issues, but I'd have a purely minimalistic client, while the 2nd method would require a bit more in the client. Any thoughts?
