Water Cooling

I was looking at some fairly inexpensive water cooling systems and wondering, what beside special PC antifreeze and water can I put in a water cooling system

I suppose glow in the dark additive, but not much more than that.
Stay away from those cheap water-cooling kits, they're generally no better than regular HSFs, and still cost a heck of a lot more money. They're mainly for show; if you really want to get serious about OCing and WC, get one of these beautys-- http://www.swiftnets.com/products/H20-220-APEX.asp

Thermaltake is actually one of the best in cooling, so that looks pretty good. But read some reviews before you start buying anything. Here's one I quickly dug up- http://www.overclockercafe.com/Reviews/ ... index.html

Btw, think about it, water cooling voids MANY warrenties on computer componants. Take a look before you buy.

stay away from sugar, you'll just grow bacteria, and if you're at all concerned about the possability of your water cooling system springing a leak (which you should be) you should stay far away from anything that would add impurities to the water. And use distilled water, not tap water.

I don't see why you can't use normal car coolant/anti freeze. If you get the yellow coolant, that even glows under UV light (I use that stuff to detect leaks in the cooling system on engines).

Also, if you want a cheap water cooling system, get a heater core/matrix from a junked car (cleaned up of course!), some matching rubber hose, copper pipe and for a water pump find a junked BMW 3 series or 5 series, to the right of the engine bay on the bulkhead there's a pump for the heater core - remove this and use it. All you need then is a couple of fans to cool the heater core.
I've helped a few people build water cooling systems for PCs although I personally have no use for it (my PC is no way powerful enough to need anything like that!)

Custom is always better, but I don't know if Joe's up to the challenge.

And you don't have to have a powerful PC to WC it, you just have to want to OC, that's the whole point of WC.

I'm never likely to overclock a processor.

If anyone does fancy making a custom watercooling kit, try keeping as many joins isolated from the hard drive/mother board/electrical connection as possible. (I tend to build it so the joins are outside the case)

Rubber hoses have a limited life and it's well worth it to routinely replace them BEFORE they burst. My 1990 BMW 520i's radiator hose burst a few weeks ago (not bad considering how old it looked!) but the devistation that would cause inside a PC case doesn't bear thinking about.
