7800GT or ATI Radeon x1600 Pro

Post by cowsgoquack101 »

I've been recently looking into making a new gaming pc. My question is which two cards should I get I'm willing to buy either I just can't decide which. I've read reviews and info from everywhere.

Help me decide?

I can't believe your even asking that question. The X1600 isn't even the competitor for the 7800GT! It's more in the ~6800 line. Get the 7800GT, trust me; I have the GTX, you won't be dissapointed.

nVidia > ATi.

Actually, the 7800GT's are only about $300 *gasp*. I just asked, I don't want to chuck out the money for the 7800GT but oh well.

Thanks (can lockify)

sigh. i find peoples opinion on graphics cards come in two flavours: the ones who are reasonable, and the ones who immediately shout at you that that "NVidia pwns ATI!". i dunno. at least back yourself up with some numbers or something.

i personally prefer ATI, maybe its because they are (or were, i havent actually checed this out latelty) a Canadian company. i have used ATI cards for as long as AGP existed. (well thats not entirely true. i had a matrox g450 in my P3 computer, but i didnt get to pick the card in that one:P. by the way, i was very happy with it). anyways, ive had several ATI cards, including the one in this laptop (and the one in my gamecube :D). i have been pleased with their preformance, range of features, and even the drivers. i have a 9600XT in my good pc, i would still consider it a decent enough card to play todays games. i scored 4300 on 3Dmark 2005 with it, if anyone else wants to compare.

so im saying that ATI is a decent company, you probably wont be disappointed. maybe NVidia cards are good too, i couldnt say because iver never had one, or read many reviews. but ill leave you with this thought: who did microsoft switch to for the Xbox 360?

oh, and the rev ;)

[edit: if cost is a big issue, then i totally reccomend going with the cheapest one, as you wont be able to tell the difference anyways (and i mean with your eyes, not benchmarking programs)]

I'm just going by the statistics, ATI can never keep up with Nvidia. I'm not saying thet're bad, but Nvidia does pwn them. And what does being Canadian have to do with anything!?

EDIT: I have used an ATI and an Nvidia at same specs, and it does seem to come out as Nvidia being the winner. And don't just ask me, have you ever read the PC mags? They all agree with me. Oh and btw, im using a 6800  I love it :P

Oh wait... I should have kept closer attention to the video card markets.
I've so far been comparing the 7800GTX 512 and the x1800XT 512.
Now ATi has come out with another card... the x1900XTX.

ATi > nVidia.

Oh, and my 3dmark05 score is 8400. :)

Yeah but i was reading a few benchmarks on the 6600gts and two in sli will barly beat a 6800ultra. I have a 6600 in my comp. and i'm happy with it. I dont care what company it is, just if you get a good deal on it. I have an nvidia sli poster on my wall "right next to HL2" and i have both nvidia and ati shirts. "i won them all at lan parties" i'm happy with my 6600 but i'll probably get a 6800ultra this summer when i build my new comp. "no 7800 for me, because i'm poor"

sorry harshboy, but youre not going to convice me until you come up with something better than "it seems that..." and "other people agree with me".

us canadians though, we have to stick together. a year doesnt go by where a major, sometimes historic, canadian company is bought out by freakin americans.

I'm using an ASUS right now, and it's the greatest 256 I've had. (Side company of ATi)

I like ATi more than nVidia for their drivers and tech support.

Umm... Can you give us a little more detail to your video card? You sound like one of those guys who has no idea what they are talking about. "I have to connect this keyboard to the input\output port to estabilish a connection with the internal mainframe."
