Atari Modem Modification
Do you guys think there are any mods that can make the modem go faster? Like an emulator for DSL? Then it would make it fast. I hope so because then when I get my new Atari I can surf the internet too.

There might (and that's a BIG "might") be a way to bring the speed up by a few baud, but remember the 800 ran at less than 2 megahertz, and it can have a total of less than 50 kilobytes of memory, so browsing the web will be butt-slow if there's even a remote chance of it working at all. For this machine, which came out in 1979, to have any chance of working with modern internet systems over hypertext transfer protocol is a pipe dream. Sorry. 
But if you and a friend both have 800s and modems for them you can use them as chat terminals, and there may still be retro BBSes out there that work with computers from ye olde television monitor days.

Sorry to say that most 8bit or 16bit computers are limited by the hardware they have. You're not likely going to get more then dialup speed out of those computers as they don't have the capcity for that ammout of data transfer. You can take a look at the Commodor64 addons, one of which is so you can connect to a DSL/Cable line.
I do know that there are options of connection those modems for the older computers to the internet via a computer modem. If you remember the Dreamcast > PC > DSL/Cable internet solution it would be a good fit here.

I think they were working on an OS with an HTTP webpage browser and maybe even a JPG image viewer for the 8-bit computer, adapting it to the Atari and Commodore Computer lines. I think they hold the record for the oldest machine to be able to browse the modern web, an Atari computer made in '79. I WANT to say it starts with a C...it's been a while since I've seen it...
