XP and FTP and ADD

Post by bicostp »

OK as you all know I have a website. (and if you didn't know that by now, now you do. :P)

On my old PC (running Windows 2000) I could easily log into the server with SmartFTP or whatever and copy files.

Now, on my XP Pro SP 1 box I cannot do so. It logs in, but when it switches to the extremely high port numbers it won't let me list files or anything.

I tried logging in with IE before, and it logged in, but it won't let me upload. (it sits there forever)

I am behind a hardware firewall, but both machines have been plugged into the same cable.

Very confusing, VERY frustrating!

Any ideas?

My best advice: try another ftp client, like CoreFTP lite

I'll be honest with you - I would have never guessed that.

I tried it in the default mode, and it didn't work. :(

It asked me to try the opposite connection type (i'm assuming it's on passive now...) and it worked! yay! :D

A lesson to you all: never doubt the wisdom of the sponge.

but now I have no excuse to not update my website! :( aw well, I was planning on writing an article about how Nickelodeon now sucks (just watching some of the new shows and bumpers is like watching my inner child get kicked in the balls and robbed of his lunch money ) :P

EDIT: New avatar up. Whattaya think?

Because:

- I hate SP2
- The built in firewall is an unnecessary P.I.T.A. (especially since I have both a hardware router and BlackICE...)
-It makes XP even more "special", coddling its way through notifications and whatnot
- All the little yellow speech bubbles coming from the notifications drive me crazy, and they all turn into this after a few hours:

<img src="http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/8861/halxp7ql.png">

- My install disc is Service Pack 1a
- I don't have any programs that require it...
- Why bother?
- They still update non- SP2 XP systems
- For me at least, lower compatibility
- It still won't read ext2, ext3 partitions or format 1.7 MB floppies. (it's easy to get nearly twice that amount of info on a floppy with a zipped file...)
